Solution W3-01
PJ.34-W3-01 Collaborative U-space-ATM interface
The objective of solution 1 is to validate the exchange of information between U-space web (U-space U2 and U3 services) and ATM through harmonized SWIM (System Wide Information Management) for avoiding airspace fragmentation and allow the safe operation of drones into controlled and uncontrolled airspace. In order to achieve this high-level objective, the solution has been divided in:
1. Literature review and state-of-the art to get systematically identify and analyse the relevant technical concepts, data models and architecture of SESAR SWIM; systematic identification of relevant standardisation and regulatory organisations shall also be carried out. U-space information exchange requirements already defined in previous SESAR U-space projects will be analysed and the U-space-ATM interface outside Europe with international will be studied. Finally, U-space services for information exchange will be evaluated.
2. Definition of the portfolio of harmonised U-space (U1, U2, U3) candidate SWIM information services, identifying the relevant services for an interface between ATM and U-space, defining the functional and non-functional requirements of the SWIM U-space. Service definitions for candidate SWIM U-space services will also be developed.
3. Validate the selected U-space services to develop and prototype the required systems including the selected U-space services and the SWIM interface. The information exchange between the selected U-space services and ATM systems will also be validated through different exercises. Finally, human factors aspects and the security impact of the interface between ATM and U-space will be evaluated and the validation results will be shared with the standardisation and regulatory organisation.

Solution W3-02
PJ.34-W3-02Highly-automated Collaborative U-space-ATM Environment
This solution will focus on the development and validation of a medium-to long-term concept for a collaborative ATM-U-space environment, which facilitates seamless operations of drones and manned aviation in controlled airspace.
Furthermore, it will identify what deployment architectures and information-exchange mechanisms are required to facilitate such a concept, and provide a baseline for a future traffic management environment which relies much more on autonomy and automated systems. In this context, the main objective for this solution is to develop a Collaborative ATM-U-space Concept of Operations (ConOps), which ensures access and equity as key performance targets.
The concept will provide technical and conceptual guidance on how to safely and effectively coordinate drone and manned aviation operations in a fully integrated and collaborative ATM - U-space environment within controlled airspace in nominal and emergency situations.
Moreover, it will identify gaps in existing ATM and U-space concepts, which need to be addressed prior to implementing a collaborative environment. It will also identify additional services that will be relevant for coherent and seamless interaction between U-space and ATM, and expand the SESAR Performance Framework accordingly.
To support this process it will be essential to determine the feasibility of a fully federated service architecture that emerges U-space and ATM systems into a single collaborative ecosystem.
And finally, a series of real-time simulations will address the key issues related to the monitoring, operation and collaboration of human actors in ATM with the highly automated U-space system and fully autonomous drones.
